Director of the Tutoring Center

Reports to: Dean of Student Success

Job status: Non-Exempt

Job Purpose
The Director of the Tutoring Center provides leadership and management of all tutoring services, including Supplemental Instruction, Academic Coaching, and course-specific tutoring, and supervision of all student workers within the Tutoring Center leadership model. This individual will partner with faculty and staff to offer strategic and data-driven services to support academic success and provide logistical support of the day-to-day operations of the Tutoring Center.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management for tutoring services, positively affecting academic success and student retention.
  • Oversee all tutoring, academic coaching, and Supplemental Instruction programs.
  • Plan and provide training each semester for all student workers involved in the Tutoring Center.
  • Supervise all student workers involved in the Tutoring Center, including the administrative desk team.
  • Maintain College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification of student training.
  • Manage and develop tutoring appointment software in conjunction with the Writing Center.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to improve student retention across campus.
  • Strategically arrange and host academic workshops covering key study skills.
  • Grow online tutoring services and resources for the Pampell Online Division.
  • Track efficiency and success of tutoring services, including the collection and analyzation of applicable student and service data.
  • Manage department budget.
  • Collaborate regularly with faculty members to develop and evaluate tutoring needs.
  • Provide leadership as directed within Summer Launch, a 1-week residential summer bridge program focusing on preparing students academically for college.
  • Partner with the Student Success Specialists to connect academically at-risk students to tutoring resources.
  • Serve on university committees as directed.
  • Emphasize discipleship and spiritual growth as key components of student success.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in tutoring services or a related field.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Terminal degree preferred.
  • Previous budgeting and management experience.
  • Commitment to the ministry and mission of Houston Christian University.

Expectations
In addition to the above job responsibilities, some weekends or evenings may be required on a limited basis.
